Parts of Speech

1. Noun

>> a specific word for a person, place, thing, quality or condition

example : Sam and Janet have reached a crisis in their marriage.

2. Pronoun

>> a word used instead of a noun

example : Janet does not know what she should do about it.

3. Adjective

>> a word that modifies a noun/pronoun

example : He is the laziest person in the whole world.

4. Verb

>> a word that expresses an action or a state of being

example : She is someone who works hard.

5. Adverb

>> a word that modifies a verb, adjective or other adverb.

example : She hardly ever stops. 

6. Preposition

>> a word that connects a noun/pronoun to another word in the sentence

example : One night she retrieved the rubbish from the bin and threw it at him.

7. Conjuction

>> a word that connects words or groups of words

example : Sam and Janet separated because he wore the same clothes for a week.

8. Interjection

>> a word (or words) that expresses a feeling or attitude but has no grammatical function

example : Good riddance!
